Wine Estates in the Luberon: Our Selection
In the Luberon, wine is rarely something you visit.
You move through it. It becomes part of a day that takes its time, a lunch that stretches on, a road between two villages in the late afternoon.
You don’t come here to tick a winery off an itinerary.
You stop because the moment calls for it.
That’s the logic behind how we recommend wine estates in the Luberon to our guests. What we share here is not exhaustive.
It’s a selection of places we know, continue to visit, and recommend based on your stay, your pace, and what you feel like discovering.
The Luberon Vineyard: A Few Landmarks.
The Luberon AOC stretches between the Calavon Valley to the north and the Durance Valley to the south, covering 36 communes in the Vaucluse, all located within the Luberon Regional Natural Park. The appellation received its AOC status in 1988.
The Mediterranean climate, combined with the significant temperature shifts between day and night at altitude, gives the wines a characteristic aromatic freshness. Rosé accounts for roughly half of total production, with red and white wines each representing approximately one quarter.
Three main families of wines are produced under the Luberon AOC:
- Rosés: aromatic and lively, strongly present throughout the summer season
- Reds: structured wines based on Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault — best discovered outside the peak summer heat
- Whites: produced notably from Vermentino, Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne — the Vermentino bringing its characteristic citrus notes, which sets the Luberon AOC apart from other appellations in the Rhône Valley
The Estates We Recommend
Domaine de la Citadelle — Ménerbes
Situated at the foot of the village of Ménerbes, Domaine de la Citadelle is a fine starting point for discovering the wines of the Luberon.
The tasting cellar is open year-round, the welcome is straightforward and warm, and the setting of dry stone walls immediately places you in the spirit of the territory.
What many visitors don’t know: the estate also houses the Corkscrew Museum, a private collection of several hundred pieces that gives the visit an unexpected dimension.
Worth planning for a morning combined with a walk through the village, or as an introduction to a longer day in the Ménerbes area.
Domaine de Marie — Ménerbes
Its 23 hectares of vines extend across the slopes between Ménerbes and Bonnieux, in a calm and sheltered environment.
The wines Domaine of Marie are produced with a careful, considered approach, with close attention paid to each individual plot.
Tastings take place in an intimate setting, often in connection with the team at La Bastide de Marie, which shares the same estate.
This is the address we recommend to guests looking for a quieter, unhurried experience, away from the tourist flow, with the feeling of being welcomed into a family property rather than a public tasting room.
Domaine Aureto — Goult
Perched on the heights above Goult, Aureto takes a resolutely contemporary approach to wine.
The architecture, tasting spaces, and panoramic views over the Luberon are as much a part of the experience as the wines themselves.
The rosés stand out for their precision and aromatic finesse. Guided vineyard tours and wine-and-food pairings are available on request.
Worth considering for guests looking for a polished, well-crafted experience with a strong aesthetic sensibility.
Château de Mille — Apt
Château de Mille holds a singular place in the Luberon wine landscape. Its origins date back to the 13th century, and the cellars are carved directly into the rock, an atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else in the region.
Production has been certified organic for several decades.
The red wines and select white cuvées have a strong, defined identity, built on patience and precision rather than immediate seduction.
The address for wine lovers who want to step off the obvious trail and discover an estate whose historical depth genuinely earns the detour.
Château la Canorgue — Bonnieux
Château la Canorgue is probably the most internationally recognised estate in the Luberon.
The filming of Ridley Scott’s A Good Year in 2006 gave it a global profile, but that’s not what makes it worth visiting.
What matters here is consistency: a family estate farmed biodynamically since the 1980s, wines that express a precise and particular terroir, and a way of welcoming visitors that hasn’t changed with the fame. The view across the vines from the estate, with the village of Bonnieux as a backdrop, is one of the finest in the area.
A natural fit for a day built around Bonnieux, Lacoste or Ménerbes.
Les Davids
Les Davids is the address we suggest to guests who are deliberately looking to step outside the well-worn circuits.
Little online presence, minimal communication. An estate that cultivates discretion, where the vines sit within a wilder, less tamed landscape than at most estates in the area.
The tasting experience is different here. More intimate. More direct.
This is an address we share by recommendation, rarely in advance, usually at the right point in a stay.
Planning a Day Around Wine
A winery visit rarely works best as a standalone stop.
It finds its real meaning when it connects with everything else: a morning market, a lunch in a hilltop village, an hour spent in a cellar mid-afternoon.
That’s the kind of day we help our guests build.
We know the estates, the teams, and the moments when a visit is most worthwhile.
We organise private tastings by appointment, itineraries combining several addresses, and transfers for guests who want to visit freely without logistical constraints.
If you’d like to include a wine experience in your stay in the Luberon, our team can guide you toward the estates and formats that best match what you’re looking for.
A Selection That Keeps Evolving
The Luberon has dozens of wine estates, some still very under the radar, others emerging. We don’t claim to have seen everything.
What we share here reflects places we know over time, continue to visit, and can speak about with genuine confidence to our guests.
We’ll refine our recommendations
based on your stay, your preferences, and the pace
you want to give your time here.
